Bazooka Gum: Ban Boredom Campaign

Bazooka Gum has been around forever. And so have the little comics that come with every package. After a century in business, the comics still aren’t funny and a bit boring. To make the brand feel more relevant, engaging, and unpredictable, we created three different kinds of comic activities: Fix the Funnies, Fun with Bazooka, and Follow Joe.

Fix the Funnies

We redesigned Bazooka Comics and made them into interactive works of art—leaving word bubbles blank and giving kids the chance to fix the funnies. And not just on the comics themselves, but also online.

Bazooka Fix the Funnies App: In each gum, kids will always get one more chance to Fix the Funnies. To maintain traffic, kids can check back to see if any of their submitted Fix the Funnies comics made it as the “Funny Of The Month”. Through social media, they can encourage friends to help their comics win while spreading the word of the Bazooka Joe Fix the Funnies contest. These winners will find their comics printed in the next batch of Bazooka Joe wrappers and online.

Fun with Bazooka

Use the wrapper and sometimes, the Bazooka gum itself to create something! Kids can enter the codes and go online to learn with step by step instructions from Joe, Mort and the rest of the Zooks. Get a bunch of Bazooka gum and create stuff. like what? How about buildings, statues, bridges and sculptures for starters. Maybe some Jenga who knows. or just plain old- fashioned who can stack the highest, most amounts of gum and so on. Take a pic of your builds and post them. Have them judged and win cool stuff!

Follow Joe

Up until now, all the Bazooka comics were single page, 2-4 panel self contained jokes. But what if we made the stories continue, like in syndicated comic strips and comic books? In this fun style, with a continuing storyline, we give you a reason to want to see the next part of the story. Enter the code online for bios, history and more to further connect with the continuing adventures of Bazooka Joe!
